In 2010, after the Hong Kong government announced its nuclear expansion plan, Greenpeace has collected over 70000 signatures on the street and online to oppose against this plan. Later in March 2011 after the major earthquake and tsunami that triggered the nuclear crisis in Japan, Greenpeace organized a candlelight vigil to again urge the government to halt its plan. As the government allegedly shows no intention in stopping its plan to increase the intake of nuclear power in Hong Kong, Greenpeace decided to elevate its action to a higher level, namely to organize a rally started from Central Charter Garden to the Central Government Offices, demanding the government to face the “inconvenient truth” of the danger brought by nuclear power.
