Charcoal Chu is the owner and founder of Eat My Cakes, a bakery and catering service on Western Street in Sai Ying Pun, just down the hill from the University of Hong Kong.
Although Chu opened his bakery just two months ago, he is far from inexperienced, having worked almost fifteen years in the food industry.
After working for an American with a passion for desserts, Chu eventually realized that cooking wasn’t his true calling.
“After that I realized I really love to bake,” he said. “So that’s why I changed my career.”
Eat My Cakes serves up a medley of sweets, from cookies to muffins, cupcakes to cheesecake, but Chu is not shy about his favorites.
“I love chocolate,” he said. “Yeah, I love the death by chocolate and the double fudge chocolate cake; it’s all my favorite.”
Despite having opened so recently, Chu’s bakery has been welcomed by the community, the same community Chu calls home.
“This is my community, it just feels a part of myself,” he said. “There are so many regular customers now, we love each other now.”

Other than chocolate stuffs I have to say Blueberry Cheesecake individual is my all-time favorite! <3
I live in the neighborhood and came across this neat little shop – the whole cakes are amazing, especially their amazing chocolate cake! Everything is yummy.
I really like how you include occasional pauses into the video by adding in the natural sounds! A clever idea that is.
I should pay a visit to the store from now on despite walking pass for a lot of times!
Oh, I love that you chose this for a story! The staff is really so sweet, and I like how you’ve captured his enthusiasm as well as how incredibly yummy everything looks
